Commercial Row
The Oldest Row of Commercial Buildings in Alabama. These
buildings were built around 1835. Tuscumbia had three rows of commercial
buildings; Planter’s Row, Mechanics Row and Commercial Row. The other
two have been lost over the years. These buildings were built on
Railroad Street (5th Street) next to the junction of the Tuscumbia
Railway and Tuscumbia, Courtland and Decatur Railroad. Captain A.
H. Keller, father of Helen Keller, published a weekly newspaper, The
North Alabamian, in the corner building. His old printing press is
presently in another building which is occupied by the
Colbert
County Reporter.
The corner building was restored and
remodeled by Robbins Property Development in 2002 and now
holds an upscale ladies boutique know as Audie Mescal.
